A Mighty Warrior Part 3 of 3

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | July 8, 2008

A Mighty Warrior

A Mighty Warrior Part III
Battle Plan

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-20

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Definitions:
• Mighty – having, characterized by, or showing superior power or strength
• Warrior - a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier. A person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics.

Key points:
• Heading (v10)
• Means of achieving the goal. (v 11a, 13a)
• Purpose (v 11b, 12)
• Explanation of the problem. (v 12)

This Week’s Challenge
KNOW the battle plan.

A Mighty Warrior Part II
The-LORD-Is-My-Banner

Scripture:

Exodus 14:13-14
13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Exodus 17:14-16
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner; 16 for he said, “Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

Nehemiah 4:19-20
19 Then I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people, “The work is great and extensive, and we are separated far from one another on the wall. 20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”

Definitions:
• Mighty – having, characterized by, or showing superior power or strength
• Warrior - a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier. A person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics.
• The-LORD-Is-My-Banner - Hebrew YHWH Nissi

A Mighty Warrior Part 1 of 3

Dr Juan P Barrientez II |

A Mighty Warrior
A Mighty Warrior

Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:1-4, 7-10

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.
8 Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach. 9 And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. 10 So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.

Definitions:
• Mighty – having, characterized by, or showing superior power or strength
• Warrior - a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier. A person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics.
• Endurance - the ability or strength to continue or last, esp. despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions; stamina:

Key points:
• A Mighty Warrior understands his position (or rank). (1-2)
• A Mighty Warrior endures. (3-4, 7)
• A Mighty Warrior understands the mission. (8-10)

This Week’s Challenge
Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

I Press On

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | February 17, 2008

I Press On
Philippians 3:12-16

Objective: Understand that “I Press On” is a declarative statement that acknowledges our desire to move into the fullness of God in Jesus Christ.

Scripture: Philippians 3:12-16

12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

Definitions:

  • Mature - pertaining to or characteristic of full development. Spiritually we are to constantly mature and become more like Christ Jesus. There are various levels of maturity and we do not achieve them in a systematic fashion.
  • Progress - a movement toward a goal.
  • Stewardship - a person who manages another’s property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others.
  • Servant - a person working in the service of another

Key points:

I Press On recognized 3 things,

1. I am not where I will be. (Position /Maturity)
2. I am not what I can be. (Progress /Growth)
3. I do not have what I will have. (Possession / Servant Stewardship)

This Weeks Challenge
Decide today that you will live a life of Christian growth and maturity.

United We Stand

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | February 10, 2008

United We Stand

Philippians 2:1-11

Objective: Understand that as a church we must be driven by the example of Jesus Christ in humility -agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Scripture: Philippians 2:1-11

1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

6 Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
8 he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Definitions:

  • Being of one accord - Being perfectly agreed in laboring to promote the honor of your Master; and of one mind, being constantly intent upon this great subject; keeping your eye fixed upon it in all you say, do, or intend.
  • Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus - Christ labored to promote no separate interest; as man he studied to promote the glory of God, and the welfare and salvation of the human race. See then that you have the same disposition that was in Jesus: he was ever humble, loving, patient, and laborious; his meat and drink was to do the will of his Father, and to finish his work.

Key points:

1. Unity through the mind and will (vv 1-2).
2. Unity by action (vv 3-4).
3. Unity by example (vv 5-11).

This Weeks Challenge

Decide today that as a church we must be driven by the example of Jesus Christ in humility -agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Ride or DIE

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | February 4, 2008

Ride or DIE
Philippians 1:19-26

Objective: Understand that our commitment to Christ should not be a shallow one, and that we should expect to grow and experience the joy of our faith.

Scripture: Philippians 1:19-26

19 For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance.

20 For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. 21 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. 22 But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. 23 I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. 24 But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.

25 Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. 26 And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me.

Key points:

Ride or DIE Christians are bold for Christ (vv 20-21).

  • They are unashamed.
  • They bring honor to Christ.
  • They are ready to live or die for Christ (v21).

Ride or DIE Christians are concerned about the great purpose (vv 22-24).

  • …more fruitful work for Christ.
  • They are not selfish.

Ride or DIE Christian desire to see others grow.

  • They point to Jesus Christ.

This Weeks Challenge
Decide today that you are ready to Ride or DIE for Jesus Christ.
