Sunday Night Reflections

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | June 15, 2008

This week end was just awesome!!! Father’s Day we were able to bless someone with $50!! Also, if you are a dad send me an e-mail or message with your mailing address and I will send you a free 31 Day devotional.

I did not get much of a chance last week to blog about our 1 Year Celebration, but it was off the hook, and truly a blessing to me. Elder Caldwell from the Church of the Living God in Spencer, OK was our speaker for the regular Saturday service and the title of his message was “Faint Not and Do Good.” Taken from Galatians 6: 6-10,

6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

I’ll have to post that one online later this week.

Then on last Sunday Rev L.D. Hooks of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Bethany, OK preached from the title, “The Gospel According to the Ant.” Taken from Proverbs 6:6-10,

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard!
Consider her ways and be wise,
    7 Which, having no captain,
    Overseer or ruler,
8 Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.
9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep?

He examined what we can and should learn from the ant about working for Jesus Christ.

This past Saturday I started a new series call “A Mighty Warrior” and whether you a male of female it is for you!!! (I’ll post this later this week also….)

Starting Off Right

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | January 7, 2008

Starting Off Right
John 1:1-5

Premise:
God birth time with his word and we should start off right, with his word.

Objective: Examine how the beginning, begun and the example God gives us for beginnings.

Scripture: John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Definitions:

  • Was (verse 1) - conveys continuous or timeless existence
  • With God (pros ton theon) - Pros  with the direct object (God) presents a plane of equality and intimacy, face to face with each other. Denotes motion towards, or direction, is also often used in the New Testament in the sense of with; and that not merely as being near or beside, but as a living union and communion; implying the active notion of fellowship.

Key points:

  • God began with his word (Jesus). (v1)
  • God’s word is eternal
  • God’s word leads to fellowship with him.
  • God’s word shows us his very essences.
  • Jesus can make a year of nothingness have purpose. (vv2-3)
  • God’s word is active.
  • God’s word possesses life (zo?e)?
  • We can’t see what the year holds, so “Walk with the Light.”

What are we here for?

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | October 14, 2007

DISCOVER LIFE BIBLE STUDY
Instructor- Dr. Juan P. Barrientez II
What are we here for?

Key Verse: Proverbs 11:30, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.”

Scripture: Matthew 9:35-38

35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Definitions:

  • Compassion - Splagchnizomai (splangkh-nid’-zom-ahee); to be moved as to one’s bowels, hence to be moved with compassion, have compassion (for the bowels were thought to be the seat of love and pity). (Strong #: 4697)
  • Weary - Ekluo (ek-loo’-o); to loose, unloose, to set free. to have one’s strength relaxed, to be enfeebled through exhaustion, to grow weak, grow weary, be tired out (Strong #: 1590)
  • Scattered - Rhipto (hrip’-to); to set down (with the suggestion of haste and want of care). to throw to the ground, prostrate (Strong #: 4496)

Key Points:

  1. We are here to do what Jesus did. (v 35)
  2. We are here to develop the compassion Jesus had for the lost. (v 36)
  3. We are here to do a great work. (v 37)
  4. We are here as an answer to prayer. (v 38)
  5. We are here to bring forth life. (v 30a)
  6. We are here to win souls. (v 30b)

This Week’s Challenge
Show forth the love of God, and gather the Lord’s harvest.

Persuaded to Love One Another

Dr Juan P Barrientez II |

DISCOVER LIFE BIBLE STUDY
Instructor- Dr. Juan P. Barrientez II
Persuaded to Love One Another

Key Verse: 1 John 4:11, “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

Definitions:

  • Love – (agape) as revealed in Jesus, seen as spiritual and selfless and a model for humanity.
  • Know - Ginosko (ghin-oce’-ko); Jewish idiom for sexual intercourse between a man and a woman. To become acquainted with. (Strong #: 1097)
  • Propitiation - Covering; atoning sacrifice. The proper meaning of the word is that of reconciling, appeasing, turning away anger, rendering propitious or favorable.
  • Ought - Opheilo (of-i’-lo); to owe - money, be in debt for that which is due. Metaphorically - the goodwill due. (Strong #: 3784)

Scripture: 1 John 4:7-11

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Key Points:

  • All true love has its origin in God.
  • love is of God (v 7)
  • God is love (v 8)
  • He loved us (v 10)
  • Real love shows that we have his Spirit, and that we belong to him.
  • everyone who loves is born of God (v 7)
  • everyone who loves is born of God and knows God
  • In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. (v 9)
  • It assimilates us to God, or makes us more and more like him. (v 11)

This Week’s Challenge
