I Press On
Dr Juan P Barrientez II | February 17, 2008I Press On
Philippians 3:12-16
Objective: Understand that “I Press On” is a declarative statement that acknowledges our desire to move into the fullness of God in Jesus Christ.
Scripture: Philippians 3:12-16
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.
Definitions:
- Mature - pertaining to or characteristic of full development. Spiritually we are to constantly mature and become more like Christ Jesus. There are various levels of maturity and we do not achieve them in a systematic fashion.
- Progress - a movement toward a goal.
- Stewardship - a person who manages another’s property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others.
- Servant - a person working in the service of another
Key points:
I Press On recognized 3 things,
1. I am not where I will be. (Position /Maturity)
2. I am not what I can be. (Progress /Growth)
3. I do not have what I will have. (Possession / Servant Stewardship)
