K.I.T.T.

Dr Juan P Barrientez II |

Knight Industries Three Thousand

KITTNBC’s long awaited series Knight Rider aired tonight. If you grew up watching the old one, then you too were ready to see if it would be worth watching in the future. And it will be I believe. The two hour premiere started a little rough and I almost turned in off, but was glad I kept watching.

When I think about KITT I see technology being used to accomplish a greater mission. No matter how great of a technological marvel KITT is it has limitations. With The Lord’s Harvest Community Church we have very limited resources, and a result of that is well use technology. To be honest it has enable me to come in contact with people, I would have never crossed paths with. You are probably one of those persons. Even our worship is driven by technology, and it has enhance our worship experience.

If you know me you realize that I believe in using technology as a tool connect people to the savior. Whether its myspace, facebook, blackplanet, Harvest Gospel Radio (on myspace), Words of Encouragement text alert service, Harvest Bible Institute, and of course this website - we are operating in our mission as a church.

What are some other ways, you have seen technology used to reach out?

Post a comment with a link to the site if possible.

I Press On

Dr Juan P Barrientez II |

I Press On
Philippians 3:12-16

Objective: Understand that “I Press On” is a declarative statement that acknowledges our desire to move into the fullness of God in Jesus Christ.

Scripture: Philippians 3:12-16

12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

Definitions:

  • Mature - pertaining to or characteristic of full development. Spiritually we are to constantly mature and become more like Christ Jesus. There are various levels of maturity and we do not achieve them in a systematic fashion.
  • Progress - a movement toward a goal.
  • Stewardship - a person who manages another’s property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others.
  • Servant - a person working in the service of another

Key points:

I Press On recognized 3 things,

1. I am not where I will be. (Position /Maturity)
2. I am not what I can be. (Progress /Growth)
3. I do not have what I will have. (Possession / Servant Stewardship)

This Weeks Challenge
Decide today that you will live a life of Christian growth and maturity.

Thing you might not know about your pastor…

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | February 11, 2008

I wanted to share with you a blog by Gary Lamb who pastor Revolution Church. He spoke about “Things you might not know about your pastor…“, I found it interesting to say the least. We are still a micro church and something do not apply to me at the moment, but many people believe this things about their pastor.

——————————————————————————————-

Thing you might not know about your pastor…

I was talking to another pastor today and we were talking about some of the interesting things people don’t realize about most pastors in regards to our jobs. The thought stuck with me all day, so here is my ramblings on things people probably don’t know realize about their pastor and his role as the leader of the church.

  • We don’t like everything about the church - I get a kick out of people who always say, “I don’t agree with everything, but….” Do you honestly think we agree with everything happening at the church as well? There are several things Revolution does that I would probably change and don’t necessarily like, but that is life.
  • You would be surprised what we end up hearing - Trust me, I hear just about everything that is happening in the lives of our people. Don’t ask me how, I just do. There are a ton of ways I find out things, but I somehow seem to find out. We have never had someone leave our church where I was surprised. I hear about what is said in Home Teams. I hear about people who leave and keep contacting people in our church. I hear about people grumbling and sowing discord. I just hear things. So don’t act surprised when I came to you about something you thought was a secret.
  • We work more than one day a week - I love people who think the pastor only has to work one day a week. Trust me, a church doesn’t run itself. M-F, we are a business in many respects. There are bills, financial issues, staffing issues, planning, meetings, etc. I love when people say everytime they come to the office we are just hanging out. The reason we are “hanging out” is because you are there and we don’t want to be rude. We are glad you stopped by, but if you weren’t there we would be holed up in our offices doing work.
  • We are willing to lose some people more than others - Okay, I don’t know if every pastor feels this way, but I do.  If I have to chose to make a decision that will cause a non-christian to leave or a christian to leave, I will always chose in favor of the non-christian (short of sinning).  If a christian leave, I know they will find another church for their family.  If the non-christian leaves, I don’t know that they will give church and God another chance.
  • We all really want to be worship pastors - Yes, it is true.  I can’t sing or play the guitar, BUT I want to be the worship pastor.  I just think it would rock to be the frontman of a band and to lead people in worship.  Plus you can dress any way you want and people think it is cool.
  • We don’t do this for the money - I get a kick out of this one.  People think all pastors are in it for the money.  I guess I missed something, but what money are they talking about?  Revolution pays me very well, but I could do what I do here in the secular world and make a whole lot more.  Trust me, I don’t do this for the money.  If money was what kept me in the ministry, I would have quit a long time ago.
  • We hate when people leave - Everyone wants everyone to like them.  I hate it when people leave Revolution, I always wonder what I could have done different to keep them, BUT people leave.  We understand that reality and we understand everyone isn’t going to like what we do.  It is life.  We might sound hard hearted about that, but we do care.  However, we have still have all the people who still attend and new people coming in who we need to focus our attention on.  We don’t have time to be upset because we are to busy snatching people from hell.

Lessons From the Waterboy

Dr Juan P Barrientez II | February 10, 2008

Earlier today I watch the Waterboy on TV and wanted to share some of what I learned as it relates to the church. If you have never seen the movie –Mama had trapped Bobby in this imaginary world disconnected from reality, to the point he was not a functioning adult in the world. Bobby has to overcome a few life struggles and mature. The church is much like Bobby.

  • Bobby as the waterboy was seen as insignificant. However, someone else saw value in his life. God, saw our value, even when we were valueless (Romans 5:8). God values people and so should his church.
  • In order for Bobby to tackle he had to have the right visual stimulation, so to speak. Paul tells the church in his letter to the Philippians to, “Let this mind (or attitude) be in you, that was in Christ Jesus.” Our visual stimulation should be the example of Jesus Christ.
  • Bobby had to break away from the trap of his past (Mama), of the same old same old. I believe that church has allowed itself to become trapped by tradition. The church cannot allow itself to be bound by tradition (Mark 7:6-7).

What movie(s) have you seen lately that you learned from on a spiritual level?
